Lead(II) complexes with Kemp’s tricarboxylate: Can lone pair activity be discerned?

The crystal structures of mono- and diperiodic lead(II) complexes with Kemp’s tricarboxylate are searched for possible effects the lone pair, particularly through Pb⋅⋅⋅H interactions. triacid (H 3 kta; cis,cis- 1,3,5-trimethylcyclohexane-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid) has been used to synthesize three under solvo-hydrothermal conditions. [Pb (kta)Cl ] ( 1 ) kta)(kta) 2 both coordination polymers displaying hydrophobic surfaces protruding methyl groups, complex being isomorphous an Sr II previously reported. In contrast, [Pb(Hkta)(phen)] ), where phen is 1,10-phenanthroline, a monoperiodic, helical polymer. all cases, Pb cations in seven- or eight-coordinate environments predominantly hemidirected nature. valence shell pair discussed terms geometry weak interactions as revealed on Hirshfeld surfaces. Only short contact at 2.84 Å possibly indicative appreciable basicity metal ion. All show similar luminescence, apparently independent nature ligands.
